About the Role
We are seeking a Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling to provide technical leadership and support for large-scale data center and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in supporting installations, troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring quality standards are met, and serving as a liaison between field operations, project management, estimating teams, subcontractors, and customers.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting Outside Plant (OSP) environments, along with a strong background in fiber optics, cable construction, structured cabling, material procurement, cable schedules, and BOM review.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, cable schedules, and construction documents.
- Create shop drawings, project submittals, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical leadership and support to field personnel during project execution.
- Support installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of fiber optic and structured cabling systems.
- Conduct quality inspections, equipment testing, system verification, and punch-list management.
- Perform site assessments and field walks to identify project requirements, infrastructure constraints, and change order opportunities.
- Support project managers during installation, startup, and project closeout activities.
- Develop scope narratives, constructability recommendations, and project support documentation.
- Coordinate with subcontractors during pre-construction planning, site walks, and scope reviews.
- Serve as the technical liaison between field operations, project management, customers, and general contractors.
- Support training initiatives and develop best practices for field leaders and technicians.
- Assist with workflow planning, project documentation management, and project startup activities.
Required Qualifications
- Experience supporting OSP fiber optic infrastructure projects.
- Experience working in data center, telecommunications, or structured cabling environments.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic cable construction, fiber types, splice enclosures, conduit systems, and approved alternative materials.
- Experience reading and interpreting cable schedules, network drawings, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Knowledge of low-voltage systems, structured cabling infrastructure, and industry standards.
- Experience supporting quality control, testing, troubleshooting, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center environments.
- Experience with Meta data center material procurement.
- Experience coordinating material procurement and inventory management.
- Experience creating project submittals, shop drawings, and construction documentation.
- Fiber testing experience using OTDR, VFL, and related testing equipment.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Leadership experience supporting field teams or technicians.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
